ACADEMIC HEAD OF SCHOOL

2022/2023 Academic Year

 

ASMS, a national leader in middle-level education, seeks a proven educational leader and inspiring communicator to become its next Academic Head of School.

 

THE POSITION

 

The Academic Head of School will be responsible for the academic program and student learning at the school.  Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a learning environment that promotes academic progress for all students

  • Maintaining a high-quality, future-focused, standards-based curriculum

  • Support of digital initiatives designed to enhance student learning

  • Supervision, performance assessment, and professional development of faculty

  • Establishing relationships within the community to provide enhanced opportunities for student learning

  • Partner with the Administrative Head and Executive Head of School; serve as a member of the leadership team

 

COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS REQUIRED

 

  • Comprehensive background and understanding of middle school curriculum, instruction, and assessment

  • Teaching experience in middle or high school with subject matter expertise in a core academic discipline

  • Background and experience in standards-based instruction and assessment with a focus on student learning

  • Experience in using student performance data to assess the effectiveness of instructional programs, and develop appropriate modifications to improve student performance

  • Advanced degree or experience as an instructional leader or school leader; experience supervising or mentoring teachers is preferred

  • Desire and ability to lead within a collaborative team environment

 

The successful candidate will have a deep commitment to the vision, mission, and objectives of the school, and a strong belief in its academic values.  They will have a passionate interest in adolescent development, and an understanding of and commitment to pursuing excellence in middle-level learning.
