ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS TEACHER 

The Alternative School for Math & Science seeks an experienced, creative, and collaborative, middle school English Language Arts teacher.  Responsibilities include teaching 8th grade English, advising, and participating fully in the elective and extracurricular programs of the school. All aspects of our learning environment are designed to support the development of every child.  

Qualifications, Skills and Competencies.

  • An undergraduate degree in English is required.  A graduate degree is preferred.

  • Experience teaching middle or high school students. 

  • Proficiency using technology in education.

  • A commitment to standards-based instruction and assessment

MIDDLE SCHOOL INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC TEACHER (FULL TIME)

The Alternative School For Math & Science seeks an experienced, creative, collaborative, middle school instrumental music teacher to join the school’s music faculty beginning in the 2020-2021 school year.  Primary responsibilities include the co-direction and management of the ASMS concert band, one-on-one instrumental instruction, and serving as an academic advisor. The successful candidate will also be excited about participating fully in the elective and extra-curricular programs of the school, including preparing students for area and state music contests. ASMS values a flexible learning environment that supports the development of the whole child.  Candidates must therefore possess a comprehensive understanding of and deep commitment to employing varied instructional strategies to guide all students toward the realization of their potential as learners and performers.

Qualifications, Skills and Competencies.

  • An undergraduate degree in music performance or music education is required.  A master’s degree is preferred.

  • Experience teaching middle or high school students. 

  • A high level of proficiency on at least one band instrument. 

  • Proficiency at teaching all band instruments. 

  • A commitment to standards-based instruction and assessment
