Our challenging standards-based curriculum emphasizes the development of essential skills, the understanding of important concepts, and the ability to apply learning to real-world problems.

Our curriculum includes courses of study for all students in English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, world languages, music, visual arts, physical education, and health.  In addition, students take grade-specific trimester courses in technology, research, and study skills which are designed to support their integrated learning experience.

Grade 6
Learning Resources

ASMS offers trimester-long courses in study skills (MS101) and technology which are designed to support student learning in the classroom. Course content is determined by specific needs expressed at each grade level, and skills learned are expected to be applied by students as they develop into self-aware learners in a technological age.

MS101

This sixth grade class is designed to introduce students to the study and social skills and tools necessary to make a successful transition to middle school. In September, the course begins with an overview of the topics necessary to begin work. Students learn about themselves as learners, and they are encouraged to set goals, investigate methods for organizing work and work spaces, and managing time that they can effectively employ in core classes. The focus of the course shifts to reinforcing social skills as the trimester progresses. Students learn about effective communication and negotiation skills in both academic and social settings.
